Open both sides — common questions
For double-open stairs, bring stair count + 2 setup planks + ceil(stair count / 6) × 2 planks for both sets of return caps. For 12 stairs: 12 + 2 + 4 = 18 planks. Use our measurement guide calculator to confirm, and Victor will verify when he calls.
The double-open kit requires three fabricated pieces per tread instead of two: the nose piece, the left return cap, and the right return cap. Each piece is individually cut and mitered, which adds labor and material per tread.
Yes — for a consistent finished look, the return caps follow the same profile as the nose piece. If you choose a square profile for the nose, both caps are also square. If you choose bullnose, all three pieces match.
Narrower planks can still work — we bond two planks together to achieve the full tread depth. This requires more material but the result is still cut from your same flooring. We'll confirm the exact plank count and approach when Victor calls after your order submission.
